Granadilla

The granadilla is an excellent source of potassium, calcium, phosphorus, iron and fiber. It helps to provide essential vitamins for the body such as Vitamin B1, B2, C and provitamin A. It also contains proteins and carbohydrates.

The shell is smooth, thick and fragile. The fruit contains a clear, jelly-like pulp with a scattering of black edible seeds. The fruit has a sweet flavour.

Consumption

Cut the fruit in half and scoop out the jelly-like pulp with a tablespoon. However, the best way to open a granadilla is with own hands, putting pressure with the fingers. Opening a granadilla with the hands is fun as the shell cracks like that of an egg.  Then enjoy!

Health Benefits

The consumption of granadilla is recommended for nerve stabilization, since it works as natural sedative or tranquillizer. The juice is used as a digestive stimulant. It also controls acidity, and helps to heal the ulcers. This fruit has a high fiber content if it is consumed with the seeds. The fruit is known as the children fruit, because it activates the thymus of the infants to help them grow.
